Teachers

Ms. Mabry teaches is the AVID coordinator aside from teaching 12th grade AVID. She also teaches IB English. Having begun teaching at Ocean View in 2000, she credits AVID as the most fulfilling part of her career. Watching students apply for college, determine their educational paths into adulthood, and follow their dreams of attaining a college education has been incredibly rewarding. She is grateful to be able to help students in this process and grateful for the AVID team at Ocean View.

Mr. Lopez has been teaching art since 2008 and has had the pleasure of teaching 10th grade AVID since 2017. He recognizes the importance of supporting students in order to achieve their goals and believes that every student possesses a determination to succeed academically and in life.

Mr. Najera teaches 9th grade AVID and Health. A fun fact about Mr. Najera is that he grew up in Huntington Beach and graduated from Ocean View High School. He completed his studies at Cal State Long Beach and Concordia, Irvine. In his free time he loves to spend time with his family and his two little girls. He also enjoys running, reading, camping, surfing, listening to podcasts, and cooking. Mr. Najera is always here to help-with a smile on his face.

Mrs. White teaches 11th grade AVID. She also teaches Emerging English and Theory of Knowledge. She is the Program for English Language Learners Coordinator at OV and loves watching students grow their language ability after they start the school year speaking little to no English. Mrs. White loves cooking, eating, and spending time with her family. This is her first year as part of the AVID Team, and she is so excited to help support students achieve their goals.

A couple things about myself, I enjoy listening to music especially at concerts, as well as going to thrift/vintage shops, exploring new places, and spending time with friends and family.

Hello, my name is Sydney! I am a History major in my third year at California State University Long Beach (CSULB). After I graduate, I plan on getting my Single Subject teaching credential and become a high school social studies teacher. In my free time, I love reading, listening to music, and going to concerts!
