Making your staff Web pages is as easy as
typing in Word. We have provided a powerful
selection of options, but please don't
let them intimidate you! Each piece
works exactly the same: fill in the blanks,
click update, and the program creates
your page, link, calendar or schedule.
It's as simple as that.
This is an overview of ECS. Detailed tutorials
to specific ECS pieces will be linked form this page.
Let's begin by signing in: Go to the school site and
click the link to your web page tools, http://www.ovhs.info/ecs/f.staff_login.cfm.
Internet Explorer is always your browser of
choice for editing your web pages.

Enter your username and password. Click
Sign In. Email at sandrews@ovhs.info or call
me at ext. 4125 if you've forgotten your password.
If you write, please feel free to choose your own
password.
Wizard or
Edit Your Basic Info
The first time you log in you will find a wizard to
help you build your home page. After you complete
the wizard, you can edit this basic information by
clicking Information on your ECS administration
page.
Whether you're
in the wizard or on the Information page,
you can enter or change last name, first
name, phone extension, username or password.
Your contact
information will appear on all of your
pages. Additional Information fields are
an opportunity to personalize your page.
Answering just three of the available
prompts will give your page character
and warmth. The sample below looks a little
clunky because the user gave such short
answers. Try to fill in one or two of
the information boxes with several full
sentences.

Click "Update
Information" when you're finished.
Schedule
List course title and location for each class. Associate
any of your subpages with any class or classes by
choosing from the "Links to Subpage" pull-down menu.
Click "Update Schedule" when you
are finished.
Sub pages
Subpages are edited just as if you are
writing in Word. The navbar at the top
of the page emulates Word's basic editing
tools. Note that you can use the tool
bar to upload images and documents. Please
refer to the Sub Pages Tutorial for help
with all sub page tools.
Sub
page features
- Copy Word text....and retain your formatting
- Edit text as easily as in Word
- Upload and link to documents
- Post pictures and picture galleries
- Unlimited sub pages
- Each sub page becomes a navbar choice
.
Assignments
Choose a course for which you wish to
enter or edit assignments.
Create, Edit or Delete an assignment.
Clicking on the little boxes to the right
of "Date Assigned" and "Date Due" will
bring up a very useful calendar. Note
that you can associate an assignment with
any or all courses. You can also enter
resource links and post files for your
students. TIP: Unless an assignment
is complex, using a sub page is a little
faster and easier.
My Files
My Files gives you a filing cabinet
accessible from any computer connected
to the Internet. Files stored here are
very secure because they can't be downloaded
by simply entering an URL in a browser;
however, the tradeoff for this security
is that files you want downloaded
need to be posted through a sub page.
ECS v. 1.2 allows users to create directories
or folders to better organize files.
Calendar
Click on a date to edit it. If the date you want is
in another month, use the pull-down menu at the upper
left to choose the correct month. The Assignments
utility is more powerful than the calendar editor,
but it is best suited to larger and multi-part assignments
and projects. TIP: Several users have commented
that they don't recognize that calendar events are
clickable to read details of entries. Until the next
version, a simple solution to this problem is placing
all of the event details right in the event title
field so it will show on the calendar without clicking
a link. The calendar will expand to accommodate event
details.
