Wins

It is hard to believe we are about to enter the holiday season.  It seems like yesterday we were registering students for classes and welcoming our incoming freshmen at WOW!  A lot of amazing things (what we call wins at OV) have been happening during the first few months of school and we have been making it a point to celebrate these wins.  We have a win jar in the administration office where staff members write down their wins and place them in the jar. During video announcements we have students and staff members share some of their wins.  As we head into the last couple months of 2015, I thought I would share some of the wins we have had as a school so far this year (this is a small sampling of our wins):

  • We have 40 clubs on campus and some clubs have over 50 students as members. The clubs are doing amazing things for our students, school, and community.
  • We added AP Computer Science this year; which is another example of how our students are continuing to push themselves academically and are taking high-level courses.
  • We had another very successful Parent Prep Academy with 60 parents graduating during the fall courses.
  • OV had a great fall sport season. Volleyball, water polo, and cross country moved on to CIF with the boys cross country team qualifying for the CIF SS final for the first time in school history.
  • Our 11th graders took the PSAT in October.
  • Some of our current seniors had the opportunity to work with Boeing as interns over the summer.
  • OVHS had an amazing compliment wall during Bullying Prevention week (even parents left compliments during Back to School Night).
  • College application deadlines are almost here!!
  • OVHS has the best students, staff, and families around!

The “win” we have doesn’t matter; what matters is that we celebrate each win.  I ask my own children every night before they go to bed to share a win from their day with me and this has helped them to feel proud of each of their accomplishments.  Seahawks-what wins have you had today?
